ESL and Emerging Technology: Unit 4 Blog 1
This week on my google alerts, I have learned of different ways Virtual and Augmented Reality can benefit our daily lives especially in a learning environment!
The first article I read was about an ESL teacher that is using different programs to be able to express themselves and collaborate through different projects that she is working on! One of them involves using Google Maps and the improving Augmented Reality function through Maps.
In both articles, I learned that expression does not have to be in a poster but can consist of screenshots of where their families live around the world and to be able to walk the streets as if they were there with this new technology.
The last article I found talks about how Virtual Reality is being used for others that are paralyzed or veterans of wars that are immobile. Virtual Reality allows people regardless of language or culture to go beyond the learning experience and actually learn more about other places and cultures through goggles. Imagine learning a language through virtual reality! It is just around the corner!
Do you think AR and VR can help you in your daily life? What do you think could be done better? Cheers!

Hello Jonathon!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your post about AR and virtual reality. I am really interested in learning more about how I can incorporate that into my classrooms, as I see posts about it all the time. Hopefully it is easier than it looks! I think it's great for our EL students to be able to see something that might make it easier for them to participate in the language. The virtual reality is such a great tool that would help them feel connected. I use Nearpod a lot and I'm thinking of the virtual field trips it has to offer. Our students could easily take a visit to where they are from and connect it to the content they're learning. Thanks for sharing this awesome article!
