Collaboration and Communication Apps Review Jonathon Kamor   App # 1 for Personal, Pedagogical, or Professional Use-Google Meet Description: Google Meet is one of several applications that are featured in the Google Suite. This program has been exceptional for teaching virtually during the pandemic. I use this application because my school district has a Google domain where I know that my work with students is secure and private. Also, Google Meet is easy to navigate for my students and allows me to break groups into smaller sections to provide individualized instruction. I also use Google Meet to coordinate with my PBIS colleagues and for district meetings. Evidence of Engagement.       App # 2 for Personal, Pedagogical, or Professional Use-Remind Description: Remind is an application that I choose to use to communicate with students and parents regarding their missing assignments and ...

Mobile-Assisted Language Learning: Unit 9 Blog 6 Mobile-Assisted Language Learning (MALL) is a new method that incorporates using mobile devices to enhance language learning! I found an article that unfortunately has to do with the recent COVID-19 Outbreak. I chose this article because it relates to MALL and its call for home learning and taking learning into the community. The article is about how Duval County schools are adapting their schooling so that their students are completing everything on devices at home! Aside from the spread of this virus, this movement towards mobile learning is in the near future! This article can be found  here ! The second interesting alert that I received is about how Virtual Reality is expected to grow drastically between 2020 and 2024! More recently, strategies like MALL and incorporating VR and AR technology in classrooms are growing as the cost in this tech decreases! I used this article because it shows that the demand for apply...

English As A Lingua Franca: Unit 8 Blog 5 Lingua Franca is defined as " any of various languages used as common or commercial tongues among peoples of diverse speech". Since our learners know both languages, technology can be used to enhance the learning experience of any language and effectively help bridge the gaps in understanding across tongues. I found an article on how international authors are having trouble publishing their writings in English! Through technologies that involve video and sound recording, as well as grammar/word processors, technology once again can prevent this and teach the ways of any language!  This article can be found  here ! The second interesting alert that I received is about how Virtual Reality is used to help overcome social avoidance! Though this is not directly about language learners, VR poses a way for interactions (whether real or not) to test their skills and oral communication when needed! Using sound and video record...

Using Tech to Transform Your Classroom: Unit 7 Blog 4 Technology in a classroom has changed the way we engage and challenge our students in order to reach higher order thinking skills. I found an article about how students are using Virtual Reality to gamify their classroom and practice core skills through VR.  In this article, students are using VR technology to simulate different scenarios that are often difficult to replicate due to funding or danger. In my opinion, I believe this article closely reflects how our classrooms will look in the next 20 years as a way to step up what learning is about! This article can be found  here ! The second interesting alert that I received is about how Augmented Reality is using Dr. Suess stories and content to teach and develop a fundamental alphabet and reading skills. Through AR, students become a part of the story and can physically work within the story as audio and visual learners. I chose this article because it refl...

Digital Storytelling: Unit 6 Blog 3 After reading through several different articles, I have found one interesting article about how Virtual Reality is changing the way we experience live music! In this article, Virtual Reality has even gone as far as replacing the actual concerts and shows with a totally virtual experience that puts others in the shoes of a performer or a regular concert-goer. I chose this article because this relates closely to digital storytelling and classroom learning in a VR setting. Seeing the capabilities only makes me more confident that VR for storytelling and basic classroom functions are just around the corner! This article can be found here ! The second interesting alert that I received is about how Augmented Reality can help improve functional vision for those that have difficulty navigating the world around them. Using AR as a way to learn and immerse yourself within a setting without risks is very engaging and just sounds cool! I chose th...

Task-Based Language Teaching: Unit 5 Blog 2 After reading through several different articles, I have found one interesting article about DuSable is using Virtual Reality for people to see into the realities of each artifact and be engaged in what is there! In this article, the Museum used VR to put you in the shoes of someone attending Martin Luther King Jr's speech in Washington! I found this to be a great article to share because VR like this can be used as a Task-Based learning experience that helps listening, speaking, writing, and reading skills! This article can be found here !  The second interesting alert that I received is one about how individuals that are bilingual behave differently when using each language. I found this interesting because I believe it boils down to cultural differences and the way they learned each language from differing environments. I believe technology help create that environment where students can be themselves instead of morphi...

ESL and Emerging Technology: Unit 4 Blog 1 This week on my google alerts, I have learned of different ways Virtual and Augmented Reality can benefit our daily lives especially in a learning environment!  The first article I read was about an ESL teacher that is using different programs to be able to express themselves and collaborate through different projects that she is working on! One of them involves using Google Maps and the improving Augmented Reality function through Maps.  In both articles, I learned that expression does not have to be in a poster but can consist of screenshots of where their families live around the world and to be able to walk the streets as if they were there with this new technology.  The last article I found talks about how Virtual Reality is being used for others that are paralyzed or veterans of wars that are immobile. Virtual Reality allows people regardless of language or culture to go beyond the learning experience and act...
